A theatre in the park
TeatroLaCucina is a concrete dream, a crazy idea, a visionary project. An old kitchen in the centre of a former mental hospital, on the outskirts of a metropolis like Milan. Where once there was an army of kettles, where meals were prepared, today stories are cooked up, and the pots and pans have made way for the stage.
Living the theatre
For most of the year, TeatroLaCucina is home to artistic companies in residence who spend their time researching and creating, immersed in the tranquillity of the park. Every day, they meet and interact with the Olinda collective project, with vulnerable workers and with interns from universities and mental health services.
Broadening their horizons, Olinda’s workers meet the guest companies every day in the course of their duties – at the restaurant and hostel – and then suddenly the roles are reversed, with Olinda’s staff sitting among the audience and discovering the work of the companies they have come to know.
